Review by Giovanni Ramirez “Cop Out” A MUST READ!

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan? Ha. I thought the same thing. What an unlikely duo. But as we all know Bruce Willis isn’t a spring chicken anymore so I guess he’s taking what he can get now-a-days. Honestly when you like at comedy trailers now-a-days you have to be skeptical because movies now aren’t like they were 15 to 20 years ago. The humor is just blah blah blah and “Bitch this” and “Nigga that”. But seeing this movie last night I have one thing to say…”Bravo”. I walked in thinking of what a waste of my Monday night. I could be plotting on how to capture Carmen Sandiego (for those who don’t know who she is look it up. She’s the cartoon world’s best thief. Bad Barbie status if you ask me), but that quickly changed as the film rolled. As you can see in this photo below that Tracy Morgan is the kind of black man to do just about anything to sabotage his stautus as a comedian and it works for him. Even if does mean getting chased by a pit bull while wearing a cell phone foam costume.

Yes, you might remember this ashy, big liped, greazy faced guy from Saturday Night Live and his new, but old show 30 Rock. You might even remember his guest appearance on ABC 7 while he was WASTED out of his mind (click here to see the video http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1747790), but it is good to see that he’s recovered from his belly rubbing, shirt taking off on live air days. He stands his ground with Willis throughout the movie which can be hard because he’s such a rad ass actor. “Yippee ki yay mother” whoa! Anywho the plot is as follows: Jimmy Monroe (Bruce Willis) is a hard working cop. Him and his partner of 9 years Paul Hodges (Tracy Morgan) have each others back in the toughest of situations. Jimmy’s daughter Ava (Michelle Trachtenberg) is about to get married in a couple of weeks to the man she loves. What a day of joy for a father huh? Well not quite just seeing as Jimmy and Paul just got suspended from the force for 30 days without pay due to having their only witness killed in front of a local neighborhood cell phone store by Juan (Guillermo Díaz), “Poh Boy’s” brother (Guillermo Díaz) and local drug dealer looking to expand his drug trafficking. If matters couldn’t get any worse, Jimmy tries to go sell his vintage baseball card to try and pay for his daughter’s wedding of $49,000. As he walks in and is talking to the store clerk, two guys  Dave (Sean William Scott) and “masked guy 1” (some unknown named Ernest O’Donnell) rob the store taking Jimmy’s only way of payment for the wedding with them. As the movie goes on it’s a cat and mouse game of trying to find his baseball card while trying to deal with his parnoid partner who thinks his wife of ten years Debbie (Rashida Jones) is sleeping with the neighbor “Steve” (Michael Pitt).  Oh and did I mention that these two also have to try and stay alive in order to help a witness who ends up in a Mercedez trunk for two days? Well I know I didn’t, but that’s as far as I will go on that matter. Go see it if you want to know what I’m talking about. Haha. Adios…..Peace.

Review by Giovanni Ramirez “She’s Out Of My League” MUST READ!

Okay it has been a while since I have done a review. I must say that for my return I did get to enjoy this comedy a lot. It has your typical boy meets girl, boy makes an ass out of himself, girl likes it, blah blah blah. But minus those cliche-ish counterparts I did value that this geeky, skinny, typical 5 kind of guy who had balls to do what he did. And if you’re a geek I believe that you may have just found your new iconic hero, but don’t get brave and think you can pull a 10. The chances of that happening would be slim to NONE, but back to the story. So Kirk is this TSA (Transportation Security Administration) officer works at an airport where he works along side his buddies Stainer, Devon and Jack  (T. J. Miller , Nate Torrence  and Mike Vogel) who thinks he’s a “Moodle”.  Kirk has very few goals in life other than trying to get back together with his evil ex-girlfriend Marnie (Lindsay Sloane) who after starts dating Ron (Hayes MacArthur) while on top of that  still stays in Kirk’s home.  (Let me just jump off topic to throw my two cents in and say that if someone is  now my EX you better believe that they would not be in my fudging home! Haha. Okay back to the point.)  When one day he meets smart, sexy, charming Molly (Alice Eve) who’s friend Patty (Krysten Ritter) thinks she likes Kirk because he’s not the typical kind of guy she dates. But contrary to all expectations, he starts dating her. Kirk starts to fall for this girl, which makes his ex Marnie and Molly’s ex Cam (Geoff Stults) jealous. But his initial excitement turns to panic as his insecurities and the advice of family and friends threaten to ruin the relationship, especially from his wisecracking brother Dylan (Kyle Bornheimer) who as in the trailer thinks she’s a prostitute. If you’re looking for a good comedy that reminds you of the first time you blew your load trying to impress your now or ex girl/boyfriend, then go see this. It may not be something completely different then most typical boy/girl comedies, but it definitely stands on its own two feet.

Review “New Moon” A MUST READ!!!!

Omg! Omg! OMG!!!! Okay…. let me calm down….(wipes his face). Okay as you know if you are following me on Twitter that I got the privilege to go see this movie last night before ANYONE else in Dallas Texas with my cousin @babygirlndallas. We sat there and watched this AMAZING movie. New Moon definitely lives up to ALL the hype. The action, the romance, the heart break and even JACOB (melting in his seat)!!! Oh my god….his abs, his pecks, his built shoulders…..WHOA. And my Edward….oh my dear sweet Edward. His sweet firey ember beautiful eyes burn a hole deep in the heart all of those who watch this movie.  And Bella has definitely grown up from looking like a sad little skinny girl to a full B cup sized woman. As you may remember the end of “Twilight” Bella and Edward dance the night away at her prom and we see the evil red head Victoria walk down the steps as the credits roll. Well “New Moon” picks up from there just like in the book. Here’s the synopsis:

“On Isabella “Bella” Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) 18th birthday, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), the vampire she loves, and his family throw her a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, she gets a paper cut, which causes Edward’s adopted brother, Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), to be overwhelmed by her blood’s scent and attempt to kill Bella. To protect her, Edward decides to end their relationship, and the Cullens move away from Forks. This leaves Bella heart-broken and depressed. In the months that follow, Bella learns that thrill-seeking activities, such as motorcycle riding, allow her to “hear” Edward’s voice in her head. She also seeks comfort in her deepening friendship with Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a cheerful companion who eases her pain over losing Edward. Bella later discovers that Jacob is a werewolf. He and his fellow werewolves protect Bella from the vampires Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the latter of whom seeks revenge for her dead mate, James (Cam Gigandet), whom the Cullens killed in “Twilight”. Meanwhile, a series of miscommunications leads Edward to believe that Bella has killed herself. Distraught over her supposed suicide, Edward flees to Italy to provoke the Volturi, vampire royalty who are capable of killing him. Alice and Bella rush to Italy to save Edward, arriving just in time to stop him. Before leaving Italy, the Volturi tell Edward that Bella, a human who knows that vampires exist, must either be killed or transformed into a vampire. When they return to Forks, Edward tells Bella that he has always loved her and only left Forks to protect her. She forgives him, and the Cullens vote in favor of Bella being transformed into a vampire, to Edward’s dismay. However, Edward gives Bella a choice: either she lets Carlisle change her after her graduation, or, if Bella agrees to marry him, he will change her himself.”

If reading that alone doesn’t have your adrenaline pump then I don’t know of any other movie this year that will. It is more of a chick flick, but if you’re a fan you’ll love this ALOT! Be warned that there are some things that are left out from the book. I won’t tell you what, but if you’re a “Twilight” fan then you’ll know what parts were left out. This film gets a 9 out of 10 stars.

The Cullen’s and Swans

  • Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan, a teenage girl who has fallen in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. She is heartbroken when Edward abruptly leaves her, but is raised out of her depression through her friendship with family friend Jacob Black.
  • Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Bella’s vampire love who abruptly leaves town to protect her. For much of the film, Edward only appears as a figment of Bella’s imagination.
  • Ashley Greene as Alice Cullen, a member of the Cullen family who can see “subjective” visions of the future and who becomes best friends with Bella. Greene explained that she would like to boost her strength and stamina for the sequel and said, “Compared to the first film it’s a much larger part for me.”
  • Billy Burke as Charlie Swan, Bella’s father and Forks’ Chief of Police.
  • Peter Facinelli as Carlisle Cullen, leader and father figure of the Cullen family.
  • Elizabeth Reaser as Esme Cullen, Carlisle’s wife and the mother figure of the Cullen family.
  • Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen, a member of the Cullen family. In an interview, Lutz said, “I’ve talked to the producers, and they say I have a lot of funny lines.”
  • Nikki Reed as Rosalie Hale, a member of the Cullen family who “feels really strongly about her hatred for Bella.” Reed, a brunette, stated that she will not dye her hair blonde to film the sequel. “It took 36 hours initially to make me blonde, and every other day, I was bleaching my head and my skin,” recalled Reed. “This time around, we are testing out different wigs and stuff.”
  • Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Hale, a member of the Cullen family who thirsts for Bella’s blood after she gives herself a paper cut. This particular scene is Rathbone’s favorite, and he stated that he is “very excited to film [it].” Jasper also has the ability to sense and control the emotions of others
  •  The Volturi

    • Michael Sheen as Aro, the leader of an ancient Italian vampire coven known as the Volturi.
    • Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius, one of the leaders of the Volturi and a key character in the plot of the film.
    • Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus, one of the leaders of the Volturi.
    • Dakota Fanning as Jane, a guard of the Volturi who has the ability to torture people with illusions of pain.
    • Cameron Bright as Alec, Jane’s brother.
    • Charlie Bewley as Demetri, a member of the Volturi.  When asked about the character, Bewley said, “He has unparalleled tracking abilities together with insane strength, speed and classiness”.
    • Daniel Cudmore as Felix, a Volturi enforcer.
    • Noot Seear as Heidi, a vampire who brings humans to the Volturi to eat.

    The Wolf Pack

    •  Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Bella’s old childhood friend and a member of the Quileute tribe. He becomes close to Bella after Edward leaves, and transforms into a werewolf. Lautner says of the role, “[Jacob] transforms mid-story—in the first half, he’s Twilight Jacob. I’m wearing a wig. My character’s very clumsy, outgoing, and friendly. When he transforms into a werewolf, he becomes something very different.”
    • Chaske Spencer as Sam Uley, the leader of a werewolf pack that protects humans against predatory vampires.
    • Tinsel Korey as Emily Young, Sam’s fiancée and a mother figure to the wolf pack.
    • Tyson Houseman as Quil Ateara, one of Jacob’s best friends and the last to learn of his wolf heritage.
    • Alex Meraz as Paul, a volatile member of the wolf pack.
    • Kiowa Gordon as Embry Call, one of Jacob’s best friends. Gordon describes the character as “Jake’s right hand man, tall, skinny, shy and the fourth to turn into a werewolf.”
    • Bronson Pelletier as Jared, the joker of the wolf pack.
    • Graham Greene as Harry Clearwater, a Quileute elder and friend of Bella’s father, Charlie.
    • Gil Birmingham as Billy Black, Jacob’s father and a Quileute chief.

    Review for “The Box” READ

With alot of so called thrillers and horror movies that have come out this year I have to start by saying as a movie buff that I have yet to see something like “The Box”.  It isn’t scary, but mainly a drama/thriller. I can honestly say it stands alone. It’s not a remake or sequel/prequel. The synopsis goes as follows.

“Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger Arlington Steward, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With Norma getting her tuition cut off next semester and Arthur being rejected at NASA’s astronaut position this offer couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity and the age old question gets put into place. Does greed go without notice? And what would you do for a million dollars?”

Cameron Diaz (The Holiday) is great in this movie (and I’m far from a fan), but her presence on camera wasn’t forgotten as she plays a loving mother/wife. James Marsden (X-men 1-3) performance was a alright. He just wasn’t the peanut to the butter. He was somewhat the kind of character you could care or not care to see depending on the person. The one actor that act my eye is Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon). His performance was specticular. Not a dull moment on scene. Just his voice, his attitude and disfigurement demand all eyes on him. Director Richard Kelly couldn’t have chosen a better actor to fill the role. This movie was an original and gets 7/10 stars in my eyes.

    “4years 2long without 1 like you” October 16, 2009 Tribute

Here it is another year gone by and they sit here remembering the good old days where your smile is what they looked forward to on your birthday and the laugh you had that never went unheard. Just to hear it was a gift itself. They don’t sit here mourning, but celebrating your existence because they know as much as you do that to sit here and mourn would just have had your passing be in vain. Things have definitely changed such your passing, but from my point of view I’d like to say that you live on through your son who is SUCH an amazing man. Yes, as much as you know he’s such a hard headed man. But I see he’s strong-willed. Not one weak bone in his body and I see it’s because you taught him to never walk with his head held down, but held up. I never got to meet you in person, but I’ve heard nothing but great things about you. It saddens me to think that I’ll never have gotten the opportunity to ask you for his hand in marriage (I’m kidding he’s in good hands). (Laughing as I remember) I see where he gets his good looks from…a side from his beautiful mother. (Wink wink).  Well sir it was a pleasure written for you on this emaculate day. I lay my head down in silence as I pay respect to one of the great fallen.

    Sincerely Giovanni A. Ramirez

Review “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” READ

I got to see this movie this past Tuesday and man do I say it was AWESOME!!! Two of my favorite vampire movies that are originally novels are “Interview with the Vampire” and “Queen of the Damned” (which stars the late and great Aaliyah!!!) Now I can add this one to it.

    Here’s the plot:

“16-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hangs out with his best friend Steve (Josh Hutcherson), got decent grades, and usually stays out of trouble. But when he and Steve stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That’s the exact moment when a vampire named Larten  “Crepsley (John C. Reilly) turns him into something bloodthirsty. Darren must become a Vampire to save his friend Steve from a poison of a spider. Newly undead, he joins the Cirque Du Freak, a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures from a Evra the snakeboy (Patrick Fugit) and a wolfman (Tom Woodruff, Jr.) to a bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and a gigantic ringmaster Mr. Tall (Ken Watanabe). As Darren flexes his newfound powers in this dark world, he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts. And while trying to survive, one boy will struggle to keep their brewing war from devouring what’s left of his humanity.”

The thing I liked about this film is that John C. Reilly’s portral is like Stuart Townsend in “Queen of the Damned”. He’s dark, fun, creepy, powerful and do I dare say some what sexy? Hmmmm. And Chris Massoglia’s portral is like Bella (minus the whole girl factor and love affair). He’s cute in the sense he knows no better, he fights for the side of the righteousness, he seems weak, but then shows you the opposite when you least expect it. and Salma Hayek as the  pre=”the “>beared woman gives new meaning to the meaning hairy is sexy. Lol. Grrrrr. And the thing that caught my interest that I loved about this film even more is when Steve (portrayed by Josh Hutcherson) goes head to head against his best friend. They quickly turn into enemies when Steve gets turned down by Larten Crepsley when he says he has bad blood and can’t become a vampire. That instantly makes him furious and vowels to kill Latren for turning him down. Then this big fat man named Mr. Skinny (oxymoron huh) calms Steve and turns him into the deadly Vampaneze who kill vampires like the one Darren becomes.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars. This film is definitely one of those great vampire films. Go see it!!!

    Review “The Stepfather”….Remake

Well well Hollywood…where do I punch you at? I say square in the balls. This movie was crap! Crap crap crappity crap crap. The elements of this shit was “Disturbia”, “Domestic Violence”, and a pinch of “Taking Lives” minus the whole Angelina being in it. I mean what’s the point of a remake if not to try and surpass the original

TheStepFatherDVD.jpg The StepFather image by MickaelMc

….well there’s the first problem…..it didn’t. The stepfather looked like he was going to snap at any moment (big whoop) and skull fuck us in the meantime. Come on now deliver a character that when we look at him he doesn’t look like he’s going to molest us in our sleep. Well here’s the plot:

“Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother Susan (Sela Ward), happily in love with a man known as David Harris (Dylan Walsh). He seems like the perfect father and husband to everyone – except Michael, who suspects that he isn’t quite the man he seems to be. Along with his girlfriend Kelly (Amber Heard), his biological father Jay (Jon Tenney), and Susan’s friends (Paige Turco and Sherry Stringfield), they slowly start to piece together the mystery of the man who is set to become his stepfather, but they may be too late in getting to the truth.”

    I went to NorthPark in Dallas, Texas for the screening. Anywho, no press was allowed….they were the lucky ones….they saved an hour and a half of their life. Lucky bastards. Here’s the truth;

Michael Harding is apparently a badass in this surburban city and he comes home from millitary school due to some screw up in the past( ummm I sense some “Disturba” moment coming on….And by that I mean having your girlfriend help you to investigate and almost get killed trying to get past dirt on this guy) to see his mom in love with this creepy looking man…we’ll call him the creepy thin man….haha okay his name is David Harris and he’s the dude who in the beginning of the film who eats some toast and drinks some coffe and walks out of the house where 4 dead bodies were laying around…..did I mention they looked hispanic? Racist bastard. Haha. Well The Harding family have fallen in love with him. Sister, brother, aunt, her lesbian lover and of course the mom who’s banging him. Things may seem cozy, but it isn’t til Mr. Harris grabs the little brothers neck quite hard if I do say so myself and things start to unravel (Now there’s the “Domestic Violence” bit I was talking about). The real father confronts him and almost kicks his ass. Of course in every family there is that one kid who would rather not talk or see his dad because he was caught banging the secertary….well in this movie that’s the case. The son saves the stepfather’s ass and of course later the stepfather kills him with a zip lock bag….oops spoiler…oh well suck it. Lol. Then of course others die and then the big fight scene involving the mom, girlfriend, son and of course stepfather take place at the end and yeah you guessed it some “Taking Lives” crap does happen where at the very end he doesn’t die and he assumes another identity. Blah blah blah blah blah. Anyways I hope there’s no sequel….ohh wait Hollywood will deliver the sequel next year probably. Lay off the crack pipes you dumb infested dips because the beautiful thing that God gave us is the ability to use our imagination. Ugh….Well I hope you enjoyed this review. Bye bye!

    Review “Paranormal Activity”…..READ

Okay I saw this movie almost three weeks ago and I got to say it was good. I watched as the film roled and I did get chills. I have yet to say I’ve seen anything like it. I was filmed great. The acting was good and I did believe that the white people in this film were on point. For the most part as I watched for some odd God reason I thought that because of the kind of recording device that was used to shoot the film I believed it was real. Boy was I wrong. Haha. I went home and did some research on the film and come to find out that the only thing real in this movie was that they actually used the couples real names through out the whole entire movie. I figured it was probably to give it that whole Blair Witch theme, but then again it might have been easier just to call them by their real names, but here’s the overview. Katie and Micah are this subburban couple who move in together and start witnessing some strange shit. So what do white people in situations like that do??? You guessed it they go out and buy a damn camcorder, but not just any kind a  pretty penny of a price if I do say so myself. So Micah surprises Katie with this recording device when she pulls up into the driveway and then the film rolls. They live their life normally in hopes to capture this bizzare phenomenon. So the happy couple set up shop in the bedroom hoping to capture this demon or spirit on camera while they sleep. But in the mean time Micah hopes to try and have Katie take her top off and maybe do some “extracurricular activities”. And man for a gay man to say Katie has a nice rack. I wouldn’t have mind licking a nipp(pause)……..moving on. As day one of recording happens and they’re asleep about 1a.m. the audience can hear this windy figure on the floorboard. With just that noise you can definitely say that somethings in that house. So days roll by and things get heard that would have had me chunk the dueces, but hey I’ve seen alot of “strange” things so “Homie don’t play that”. But anywho it isn’t until the 7 or so day that it gets really interesting. Katie calls a ghost specialist and of course Micah being a typical white boy doesn’t believe half the stuff that comes out his mouth. He advises them not to mess with it or even attempt to provoke it. And guess what Micah does later on???? Hmmmm you guessed it. That ass goes out and gets a Ouija board. And by then Katie gets P.Oed because he promised he wasn’t going to go out and buy it, but at his defense he didn’t buy it he borrowed it from someone. Hehe. Needless to say they have an agruement and they storm out somewhere….probably to dinner or something. Well what we get to see is that the Ouija board that Micah has set up on the table starts to move as wind is gusting in the room. This demon or spirit is pissed. He sets it on fire. Haha. I laughed as the audience screams. Freaking Pussies. So in the bedroom scenes as days turn into the first two weeks we see footprints in baby powder being formed, doors slamming, lights flickering, Katie’s ass being possessed and hovering around Micah in his sleep, you know typical chilling shit that would remind us colored folks that we have an advantage to whites….we know when to leave, but hey if  they want to pull some Scooby Doo Mystery shit then by all means proceed. OMG!! My favorite part in the movie was when the sheets start to move and Katie’s foot is at the edge of the bed and the demon thing plays with her foot and then out of nowhere grabs her and drags her on the floor…..she’s in shock and starts to scream while Micah jumps up and the demon says no sir by slamming the door on Micah as he drags Katie about estimating 300 feet into the guest room. Katie’s dragging her fingernails across the floor screaming for Micah and then when he breaks free from the room the ghost and Micah play tug of war with Katie’s body. That had me rolling and thinking as a rational human being after something like that I would have ran out the house and never looked back. But that’s not the case here. She runs back into the same room she was just drug out of and hops on the bed holding Micah. if you thought that was chilling….just wait til you go in theaters and see the whole thing. I bet you’ll walk out laughing at yourself and the audience.

“Anybody who is willing to listen” by Giovanni Ramirez

Known to write reviews I plan just this once to go outside the box.

When we fall in love for that very first time we all feel that special spark ignite and feelings take over. It’s that special moment we hope to treasure forever. Whether we meet someone through a friend or we just randomly hook up with someone and it happens we wonder why it happens; why it took so long; and lastly why did it happen like this? I used to ask myself was it karma? Is this Gods way of torturing me because of how it happened? I had to come to terms that we can’t help who we fall in love with, if we did hell the world would be a disaster. As a product of both love and heartache I don’t preach and say go out and search, but don’t shield yourself from the possibility either. I was once was that guy. The guy who was in love with only himself, pitied those who said that they were in love and that one that would rather use sex as a weapon.

See it’s when we have those kinds of feelings that we meet someone special. The one who takes your breath away, you see yourself bettering for, and growing old with. It wasn’t until recently that I felt all of that and some. As a first eye witness to this let me warn you that when this happens……your life will no longer be the same. When he/she has your heart and your mind starts to race you’ll notice that the old you will grow, never change, but grow. Don’t be scared of the “I love you” phrase. It feels so good to say it when you find him/her. Hell being 8 months I’ll raise my voice and yell it because it feels that good.

You ask why should we take advice from you. I answer with I’m not giving advice……just shedding light on a subject that the Gay/Straight community would rather leave alone. I mean no harm in what I’m about to say so please don’t take it that. When gay males randomly hook up and become promiscuous….why do you think they do it? I’ve learned in my life I did it because I was tired of looking at everyone else being happy…..that even for that hour or two of pleasure I was just as happy (or so I thought).  What those people had in common when they laid next to one another at night was that they loved each other. When I was in bed with those guys I had no ounce of love just lust.

I secluded myself from the world because I was afraid to love. Afraid to be vulnerable and allow anybody to love me. I was 18 when it first happened. When I met the love of my life and my eyes widened. Damn that man right there helped me see the errors in my way and for that I thank him because he’s the man who has my heart. If you know me then you know I don’t love easily so when hearing me say it you know it’s real.

Which brings me to my next subject; why are we scared of new things as human beings? Are we so used to the normal let downs that we keeps oursleves from experiencing love, happiness and trust? Or should we stand up and say, “I no longer will be a victim of life’s cruel pleasures and I will allow new journeys to be set in stone for me”? I’m not saying drop your guard, but give that guy/girl a chance. Who knows maybe it was fate bringing you together…….you’ll never know until you try. Life’s a game of chance and like the lyrics of Reflekt we all “Need to be loved”.

    Review for “WHIP IT”….awesome film!!!!

Plot:”A misfit girl named Bliss (Ellen Page) is constantly being pressured to enter beauty pageants by her mother, so she joins a roller derby league instead. She feels that these girls are her new heroes. She has no idea how to skate but Smashly (Drew Barrymore), one of her teammates, tells her to be her own hero. This is a big theme in the movie. She then is determined to join their roller derby league. After she is good enough to not break her neck on skates, she tells her mom she has a pre-SAT class after school on Thursdays. Her mom believes her and is very happy she is taking some initiative in her life. But when her mom finds out everything will change.”

First off I must praise Ms. Barrymore on a job well done with this film. I walked in with an open mind and I walked out loving this film. We’ve all been there once or twice…..come on you know what I’m talking about….lying to our parents, sneaking out the house, making out with boys(LMAO) and just trying to find ourselves and that’s why I loved this film. It tells a story of a teenager who’s parents (or in this case just her mother because the dad wants his daughter to be happy in whatever she does) trys to live through her and she hates it. She wants to enjoy her life and roller derby is her passion and she stops at nothing to be happy doing what she loves. And the good thing about the main character is that we can all relate to her because guess what? Somewhere in our past we were that person……that person who had to go by the books, listen and do what everyone else did because it was the norm, but the good thing about it was that like the Bliss’s character we found ourselves and we’re glad we are who we are with no regrets. The cast was great. We of course have Ellen Page as Bliss Cavendar, a teenage girl who runs away to join an Austin roller derby league, Marcia Gay Harden as Bliss’s mother, who would prefer her daughter enter beauty pageants than play roller derby, Daniel Stern as Bliss’s father, who encourages Bliss to follow her dream, Kristen Wiig as Malice in Wonderland, Bliss’s mentor, Alia Shawkat as Pash, Bliss’s best friend, Landon Pigg as Oliver, Bliss’s guitar playing love interest, member of a band, Juliette Lewis as Iron Maven, a rival player on Austin’s top team, Drew Barrymore as Smashly Simpson, one of Bliss’s teammates, Eve as Rosa Sparks, one of Bliss’s teammates, Zoё Bell as a medical technician who moonlights as derby star Bloody Holly, Ari Graynor as Eva Destruction, one of Bliss’s teammates, Andrew Wilson as Coach, Bliss’s Coach, Jimmy Fallon as the Master of Ceremonies, Har Mar Superstar as Coach Jeff, Austin Bickel as Riley, Malice in Wonderland’s son, and Eulala Grace Scheel as Bliss’s younger sister. If you’re looking for something edgey, cute, funny and plain badass go see this film. Hell take the whole family. It’s worth a watch in my eye’s. Peace!
